Sober Living in a Halfway House

A halfway house may not offer addiction removal therapy of the same stature as  drug addiction rehabilitation centers, yet it  provide a safe  environment    for drug addicts and problem drinkers to  address and overcome their addiction. It is a safe and secure place, free of any addiction prone circumstances.  This makes them ideal living areas for recovering addicts.  A halfway home is a place where the addicts can begin their exploration to gain an understanding of sobriety and apply the lessons of drug treatment in order to lead a clean and addiction free life. Hence the very environment available at the halfway house makes sober living an achievable reality.

Halfway houses use various methods of drug treatment processes to treat patients who wish to lead a sober life. Halfway houses may not put forward supplementary therapy. However, on the other end, the halfway houses require its patients and residents to keep up a positive code of conduct. This may include various kinds of stipulations such as:

Ĝ Complete rejection of substance abuse

Ĝ Optimistic and productive employment

Ĝ Observance to deadlines and decrees at all points of time

Ĝ Compliance to arbitrary drug testing at any point  deemed suitable by the halfway houses manager

These are some of the necessary criteria that the residents have to abide by in order to continue their residency at the halfway house. Comprehensive halfway houses have continuous drug treatment processes to follow. This is necessary in order to ensure a suitable level of quality and social conduct. Hence, to ensure the purpose, 12 step meetings are likely to take place more often within halfway houses along with various other social education courses and aftercare programming, which are simultaneously offered at halfway houses.

The general period of sober living offered to the residents of halfway houses on a normal basis is between 3 and 6 months at the most. This is the time period for which they are allowed to stay at the house once the drug rehab program has come to an end. However, most halfway houses do not follow any particular standard time period as far as the extent of the placement offered to the residents is concerned. The time period varies between halfway houses on the basis of the procedure of treatment. The residents are free to move out of the halfway house at any time they wish, once the first three months of compulsory stay is over. Irrespective of whether the halfway house one chooses runs for a profit or non-profit purpose, they ensure all the possible criteria that are necessary, are provided to the residents.
