How to select a good Christian rehab

People who are struggling with drug addiction often fail to understand the need for a rehab and even if they do, they are often too late; this is when family or a friend should intervene and take an instrumental role in searching for a proper rehab center. The traditional form of rehab or a Christian rehab, offers a variety of programs completely depending on the state of the addiction. A better understanding of the different programs is quintessential before taking a decision.

Requirement of an in-house treatment:

The first and foremost decision which is required to be taken is whether or not the person warrants an inhouse treatment program. Mostly all Christian rehabs offer inhouse programs along with medical treatment during the initial stages. This is because under supervision the addict can be kept detached from his addiction, apart from the fact that the therapist gets a closer interaction with the person. These rehabs offer well trained staff and experienced medical experts, who provide their undivided attention to the person when he is trying to withdraw from addiction. This is a difficult phase as he undergoes unbelievable physical and mental agony. Alongside with all these programs a spiritual strength is induced, through reading of Biblical scriptures and stories from the life of Christ to which the person can relate. This spiritual halo of healing awakens the conscious and helps regain the strength to fight back addiction.

After release from the rehab center, the patient can continue with the in-house programs. Only in a few handful cases does a resident warrant further stay until all the withdrawal symptoms are seen to have been alleviated.  The duration of the program directly depends on how the resident is able to adjust to the new environment and how fastidious he is to the program. Often a deeply affected person might leave the rehab within a span of four to five weeks, while someone with a mild addiction might stay a little longer either to recuperate more through spiritual healing .

Presence of Trained professionals:

Under the counsel of a trained professional, the program begins with light-to-moderate physical exercise and education on drugs. This engages the body and mind and averts thoughts that might result in a potential relapse in the early stages. Individual counseling and also counseling with the family is one of the core activities of these rehabs. This helps in the better understanding of both the parties and nurtures a bond which acts as an indispensable support to stave off the addiction.

Checking the standards of hygiene and cleanliness of the place:

Environment is another essential factor which is required to be checked. If the environment is unclean and unhealthy and doesn’t keep up with basic standards of hygiene, the patient will never be comfortable to follow the treatment in the first place. It should also be checked whether the addict is treated with the same level of concern that a family member would. Timely information should be communicated to the family to how the person is responding to the treatment.

Government standards and credential should be checked:

An authorized rehab must have some accreditation and some proof that it follows the government standards of therapy and care; it should also follow proven treatments and offer the services of professional therapists.

Standardized and comprehensive mix of therapy & after–care program

A good rehab must follow a comprehensive mix of therapies along with pharmacological treatments. If the sessions consist of only meditation, self reflection, too much of free time and self medication, it might not be of much help to a deeply affected addict. An aftercare program should also be offered as a part of the charges taken during admission. The whole treatment is incomplete without an extensive after-care program, because even after an intense program, chances of relapse are always there.

The Christian rehab should give a confidence and a feel good factor:

Most importantly it should match your philosophy and belief and should have a feel-good factor attached to it. If only the whole feel appeals to you and fills you with a level of confidence, then you know you are making a right choice in selecting a good Christian rehab.
