Christian Rehab Treatment: A hope of better life

Its is unfortunate to know that every year almost 135,000 people die due to addiction of drugs and alcohol and over 20 million people are addicted to drug and alcohol. It is a cause of concern not only for the addict’s family but also for society at large. The addicts slowly aloof themselves from the society and don’t even like to meet friends and family. To protect these people from drug abuse and to bring them back to their family, Christian rehabs have come to their aid. They have gained a huge popularity for effective faith-based treatment and its commendable success rates.  Christian rehab is like a silver lining and provides hope of better life.

The foundation of a Christian rehab is to help treat an addict through enhanced spiritual consciousness. The whole idea of a Christian rehab is to change ones perspective towards life by rebuilding faith in God. Fear, anger, disgust, and distress are common emotions that an addict goes through and these result in self indignation and irritation. To restore mental serenity and calmness is the foremost aim of a Christian rehabilitation. Once a person is more accepting with his virtues and vice, treatment becomes easy for both the patient as well as for the therapist.

In a Christian rehab, traditional form of treatment is entwined with spiritual healing. Here medical treatment is followed along with psychotherapy. The addict is put through abstinence test, through this trial period the patience is denied drug and alcohol during which the patient learns to live without substance. While the addict goes through this kind of an ordeal, the abstinence test is supplemented with group and individual therapy. In a private therapy, the addict is made to understand why he had to go through such a treatment and how important is God’s faith on the road to recovery.

Often a lot of misperceptions are attached with Christian rehab centers; they are often thought to be poor with medical treatment, whereas on the contrary they are best facilitated with doctors and medical resources. A Christian rehab follows a twelve step therapy program, where one-two hour of personal therapy is allotted per individual, along with relapse prevention courses. For alcoholics a twelve step philosophy of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). AA treatment is mainly based on submission to the Higher Power and deriving strength and support from it. The principles of Jesus Christ are used as a base for the treatment. Once the addict develops endless and unfaltering faith in God, he will take responsibility of his life and get back to his senses making the treatment successful. The best part is that these faith-based centers are not accompanied with heavy medical bills in comparison with the private rehab centers.

It is very important to introduce into a patient the idea of faith and confidence, which in future helps him to battle out the tensions and temptation. In a Christian rehab, God is the unifying index between harshness of medical treatment and compassion of spiritual learning and confinement to the beliefs of the Bible. The tranquility of the environment works as a healer to a bruised mind. Once the detoxification of body and transformation of one’s thought process is complete, the patient gets a fast recovery. The faith in God helps them recover quickly. One develops an inner consciousness and understands that sober life and spiritual path is the way to live a happy and healthy life.

At these centers addicts learn a lot of positive traits like anger management, fundamental human virtues, forgiveness, patience, love, care, honesty, sense of fairness, and justice. The whole idea is to heal not just the addict’s body but his mind too. The journey of an addict to a non-addict makes one a better person.
