Christian Rehab Programs: How do they work?

Drug addiction and alcoholism is a growing concern in today’s world. There are Christian Rehab programs which are designed to carry out treatment for such cases by inculcating faith in God in the addicts. This unique method of treatment is effective and result in long term sobriety. The success of the treatment also depends on the patients resolve to get treated. With appropriate use of medical techniques, therapies relating to cognitive behavioral modification, counseling, peer group sessions as well as faith based treatment techniques focused towards the healing power of Christ, the patients are treated.

Drug addicts are physically and psychologically dependant on drugs and alcohol. This is why medical supervision for detoxification is extremely important. Advanced treatment procedures are also used to help patients come out of the difficult phase of life. The process of detoxification is the first step towards recovery. Medicines are prescribed after monitoring the physical condition of the patient. The detoxification procedures are aimed at reducing the level of physical dependency of the patient on drugs, it is only after this that the process of spiritual healing begins.

A common method followed in most of the Christian Rehabilitation treatment centers is the 12 step program which is considered to be one of the most effective methods of dealing with drug abuse. In these programs, faith is the only aspect that is relied upon as it is considered the most important element in recovery. The rehabilitation centers advocate the pivotal role played by Jesus in sacrificing His life for mankind.

Through spiritual sessions and prayers, the addicts are encouraged to submit to the Almighty which in turn increases their desire to embark on the path of recovery and sobriety. Other than detoxification and the inherent belief in God, rehab centers also use group or individual therapies, Bible study groups, and prayer groups to rebuild the patients’ lost faith in God over the years. In the Christian treatment approach, the abuser is surrounded by similar individuals who have the common aim of self healing through faith in the powers of Jesus Christ. This helps in effective recovery too.

The Christian Rehab programs also aim at increasing knowledge of the addicts about how drugs affect human health. Educational seminars are held regularly for making the addicts aware of the harm substance abuse causes. The knowledge and education thus imparted helps patients know how they were harming themselves and also reduces the chances of relapse. They are also counseled about how they can apply strategies and thereby deal with issues such as sudden triggers. This is where they are told about how to minimize their urges and temptations.

The aim of Christian Rehab programs is also to help addicts become part of the society again. These programs are designed to reduce chances of relapses by getting to the root of drug addiction. The rehab programs also involve group interaction, learning life skills and developing interpersonal skills that help patients become part of their social circle again.
